Information

Hosted by the Department of Geography Co-Sponsored by: The Mark MaGrann Endowment Fund, Urban Studies Foundation (USF), Rutgers Advanced Institute for Critical Caribbean Studies (RAICCS), Institute for the Study of Global Racial Justice (ISGRJ), School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS Global Initiative), School of Arts and Sciences (SAS), Rutgers Global, and the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS).

The Magrann/USF Conference brings together a global network of researchers and activists interested in Black geographic studies and activist interventions against the racialized power dynamics that perpetuate devaluation, extraction, expropriation and marginalization of Black lives and majority-Black places.

The conference will highlight critical scholars and activists who foreground Black Studies epistemologies in their work, notably by drawing on the vital insights of social movement participants in our collective knowledge production.

Featuring scholars and activists from the US, Brazil, and the Caribbean, the conference will develop and strengthen scholar-activist collaboration across these Black diasporic spaces.
