Please join us for a special advance screening of Silver Dollar Road, a new documentary from Academy-Award Nominee Raoul Peck (director of I Am Not Your Negro, Best Documentary Feature Academy-Award nominee and Best Documentary BAFTA Award winner).

Following the screening, we will host a discussion with Hébert Peck, Academy Award-nominated filmmaker, Emmy Award-winning TV producer, Assistant Director at Rutgers Communications and Marketing (R-Comm) and producer of Silver Dollar Road.

Silver Dollar Road follows the story of the Reels family as told by the matriarch Mamie Reels Ellison and her niece Kim Renee Duhon, two fierce and clear-eyed women bending to safeguard valiantly their ancestors' land and their brothers and uncles Melvin and Licurtis, who were wrongfully imprisoned for eight years - the longest sentence for civil contempt in North Carolina history.

This documentary, based on the 2019 ProPublica article, highlights the covert ways the legal system has been exploited to keep Black land ownership fragile and the racial wealth gap growing.

Silver Dollar Road will premiere in select theaters on October 13, and on Amazon Prime Video on October 20.
