Creating Community: A Conversation with Nicolas Nuvan

The Sheila Y. Oliver Center for Politics and Race in America (CPRA), co-sponsored by the Rutgers–Newark Office of the Chancellor and Provost, invites you to Creating Community: A Conversation with Nicolas Nuvan—a celebration of storytelling, food, and belonging in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Nuvan, a New York–based documentarian and proud Rutgers alum, is known for his viral TikTok and Instagram videos that spotlight everyday Black and Brown lives through heartfelt conversations often sparked by a shared meal. In this public event, he will reflect on how food and memory open the door to empathy, joy, and human connection—offering a counter-narrative to the polarization that defines so much of our time.
The program will be followed by a reception featuring dishes from diasporic communities across Rutgers–Newark and New Jersey. Doors open at 5:30pm. Free and open to all, with registration required. This event is co-sponsored by the Community Media Center at Express Newark.
